Mario Tennis Fever is coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 on 12th February 2026.
There’s a news story doing the rounds, thanks to a recent Tweet from Nintendo of America, which is headlining the fact that the upcoming Super Mario spin-off will boast 38 playable characters – “the most in series history,” the official Nintendo game page says.
This isn’t really news at all, as this was revealed during the game’s initial announcement trailer which was shown in September 2025’s Nintendo Direct.
So, which characters will be playable? See our list below:
- Mario
- Peach
- Daisy
- Waluigi
- Bowser
- Rosalina
- Petey Piranha
- Donkey Kong
- Luigi
- Boo
- Yoshi
- Birdo
- Pauline
- Chain Chomp
- Shy Guy
- Blooper
- Spike
The announcement trailer also shows a Koopa Paratrooper playing tennis in the background of the Adventure mode’s overworld.
The story will also feature Baby Wario for his first appearance since Yoshi’s Island DS and Baby Waluigi who makes his video game debut in Mario Tennis Fever – although it remains to be seen whether these will be playable outside of the adventure mode.
In addition to 38 playable characters, you’ll also have 30 Fever Rackets to choose from, each with its own unique special ability which can be utilised after filling a meter through gameplay.
Finally, the Talking Flower from Super Mario Bros. Wonder will make a return as a match commentator, while Lakitu will watch from the court-side and act as a ballboy.
We’ll keep this post updated as new playable characters are announced.
