I had a couple of resolutions at the beginning of 2025. Firstly, I wanted to make a dent on my backlog. Secondly, I wanted to spend more time playing cool indie games and less money on new triple-A games. Here’s how I got on:
January 2025
- QWOP (Browser)
I’m not sure what came over me, but on a dreary January afternoon I sat and reached the 100-metre board in the viral browser game that nobody has spoken about in over a decade. - Astro Bot (PS5)
What a delightful game. - The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe (PS5)
Fun little walking simulator, although the trophy for having the game running for an entire Tuesday can get right in the bin. Don’t even talk to me about how I messed this up by attempting it on the PS4 version having got the other trophies on PS5. D’oh! - Inertial Drift (Steam Deck)
- Ridge Racer (PS Vita)
- Flower (PS Vita)
- Thank Goodness You’re Here! (PS5)
- The X Factor (Wii)
- Wolfenstein: The New Order (PS4)
- Jusant (Steam Deck)
- 10 Second Ninja X (PS Vita)
- Guacamelee! (PS Vita)
February 2025
I didn’t actually finish anything in February, due to busy period at work and a holiday thrown into the mix. I did buy SteamWorld Heist II and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition – more on those later.
March 2025
- SteamWorld Heist II (PS5)
- Spilled! (Steam)
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – The Definitive Edition (PS4)
April 2025
- Xenoblade Chronicles X (Nintendo Switch)
May 2025
- Super Mario Oddysey (Nintendo Switch)
- Despelote (PS5)
- Gibbon: Beyond the Trees (Nintendo Switch)
- Gran Turismo 7 (PS5)
- Splatoon (Wii U)
- No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle (Wii)
June 2025
- Astro’s Playroom (PS5)
I accidentally deleted my save file, so had to go back and 100% it. I simply had to! - Mario Kart World (Nintendo Switch 2)
- Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour (Nintendo Switch 2)
- Sonic X Shadow Generations (Nintendo Switch 2)
- Pizza Tower (Nintendo Switch)
- FAR: Lone Sails (Steam)
July 2025
- The Simpsons: Hit & Run (PS2)
August 2025
- 20 Small Mazes (Steam)
- Donkey Kong Bananza (Nintendo Switch 2)
- Mafia: The Old Country (PS5)
September 2025
- Gears of War: Reloaded (PS5)
- Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip (Steam Deck)
- Pokémon Legends: Arceus (Nintendo Switch)
October 2025
- Pikmin 2 (Nintendo Switch)
- Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo Switch)
- Easy Delivery Co. (Steam Deck)
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition (PS4)
November 2025
- Arctic Eggs (Steam Deck)
- Luigi’s Mansion (Nintendo Switch 2)
- Buckshot Roulette (Steam Deck)
- Mouthwashing (Steam Deck)
- 24 Killers (Steam Deck)
December 2025
- Need for Speed: Underground (PS2)
- Sonic Superstars (Nintendo Switch)
- ARMS (Nintendo Switch)
- Pepper Grinder (PS5)
- Parking Garage Rally Circuit (Steam Deck)
(I will get around to writing a short sentence about each game at some point!)
And that’s a wrap! Forty-nine games. Pretty impressive if I do say so myself – although it doesn’t quite match the dizzying heights of 2021, when I managed an average of one game per week for the entire year. Although, if I recall correctly, I did take some liberties and count Bowser’s Fury as a separate game to the Super Mario 3D World re-release.
I wrote these here just for my own personal sake, really. But it should give you an idea about my tastes and the sorts of games I’ll likely be covering here.
So, I’d say that I did manage to achieve my goal! Hard to deny that I certainly made a dent in the backlog, and played some cool indies, too! Although, I must admit that I wasn’t infallible: the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 hype train took me for a ride (I barely made a dent on the second chapter), and a £60 Amazon Prime deal means I also added the deluxe edition of Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater to my pile of shame (still sealed).
Do you have any gaming resolutions for 2026?
For me, I’d like to double down on more of the same!
